Clocks Move Faster
© 2016 Eric Schaffer, Carol Schaffer

There’s a quiet in this house tonight
Cold walls and hollow floors
I listen for your footsteps
Echoing through distant doors
The mirrors still hold your reflection
But my heart has no direction
When you’re not here

Now I’m just passing time
These grains of sand all fall in line
Waiting for you to bring your light
And fill these empty skies I’ve drawn
I wish I could make the clocks move faster
When you’re gone

I want to drive that interstate south of Bellingham
Watch the Cascades kiss the sky
Those colors will cut like diamonds
I want to see them in your eyes
That highway is just a distraction
We’ll ride off into the blue
Just me and you

Now I’m just passing time
These grains of sand all fall in line
Waiting for you to bring your light
And fill these empty lines I’ve drawn
I wish I could make the clocks move faster
When you’re gone

Solitaire instead of sleep
Eating things I shouldn’t eat
Watching movies I’ve already seen
Knowing what I really need
Praying as I fall asleep
Godspeed your mercy back to me

Now I’m just passing time
These grains of sand all fall in line
Waiting for you to bring your light
And fill these empty lines I’ve drawn
I wish I could make the clocks move faster
When you’re gone
When you’re gone
I wish I could make the clocks move faster
When you’re gone
