The Song is song by a person that sounds an awful lot like Johnny Cash although I don't know for sure if it is Johnny Cash. Marlboro had a big budget for advertising so it's possible, but I do personally think it's an impersonator. The Leo Burnett Created this advertising Campaign and it's recognized as one of the greatest Campaigns ever, it transformed Marlboro into the largest brand in the world for cigarettes.
