"For the Good Times" was written by Kris Kristofferson in 1968 and recorded by Bill Nash the same year. The song established Kristofferson as one of country and popular music's top song writers. Kristofferson's own recording appeared on his self-titled debut album in 1970. Ray Price also recorded the song in 1970, topping the US Billboard Hot Country Singles chart and reaching No. 11 on the US Billboard Hot 100. At the 1971 Academy of Country Music awards, "For the Good Times" won in two categories, 'Song of the Year' and 'Single of the Year.' In 2014, Rolling Stone named Price's recording No. 18 in its '40 Saddest Country Songs of All Time' chart. The song has continued to be recorded by a number of artists including Dick Contino in the ensuing years to popular success. I hope you enjoy my rendition of the song that Kacey Musgraves said, "might be the saddest song of all time."
