"Goodbye Kris" - A Final Toast to the Highwayman ????
(If you enjoy real Outlaw Country, please hit SUBSCRIBE and help keep the traditional sound alive!)
"Goodbye Kris" is an acoustic, heartfelt tribute to the legendary Kris Kristofferson. Written by Croatian songwriter Peter Renwood, this track bridges the gap between Europe and the heart of country music to honor the man who taught us that freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose.
We didn't want polished pop-country production. We wanted real wood and wire. We wanted the song to sound like a dusty jukebox in a Texas dive bar on a Sunday morning.
To capture that authentic, crying sound, we brought in Nashville pedal steel veteran John Heinrich. To deliver the raw emotion of the lyrics, we featured the gritty, soulful vocals of Joe Romero from Mexico. And to make sure the track had that thick, vintage warmth, it was mastered entirely on analog gear by Andrija Tokić at Bomb Shelter Studio.
This is our tribute to the Highwayman. Rest easy, Kris.

LYRICS: "Goodbye Kris"
(Written by Peter Renwood)
[Verse 1]
No one like Kris,
He stood like a rock, smart and nice.
Eager to follow his dreams
And become the greatest of all.
[Verse 2]
He was a Highwayman, one of the four,
With Waylon, Willie, and John.
He was the best he could be,
Everybody knew he wrote Bobby McGee.
[Chorus]
Goodbye Kris, you will live on the songs you wrote,
Sunday morning won't come down as before.
Goodbye Kris, you'll be greatly missed, I know,
Sunday morning won't come down as before.
[Instrumental Break]
[Verse 3]
Now you're singing on the heaven's shore,
Say hello to Waylon and John.
Tell them how greatly they're missed
And how their songs live on.
[Bridge]
But "Please Don’t Tell Me How The Story Ends,"
Your "Come Sundown" won’t sound the same again.
Goodbye and farewell, I'll be waiting until we meet again.
[Chorus]
Goodbye Kris, you will live on the songs you wrote,
Sunday morning won't come down as before.
Goodbye Kris, you'll be greatly missed, I know,
Sunday morning won't come down as before.
