Is this the coolest quick-release knot ever? ???????? This is the Highwayman’s Hitch. Legend has it that bandits and highwaymen used this knot to tether their horses during a robbery. Why? because a single pull on the working end releases the knot instantly for a quick getaway!

Unlike the Halter Hitch, this knot is more of a "trick knot" today. It’s fun to tie and satisfying to release, but be careful—it can be unstable if the rope is slippery!

How it works:

Create a bight behind the pole.

Create a second bight and pass it through the first.

Create a third bight (with the working end) and lock it.

Pull to escape!
