ABBOTT, Texas (KWTX) - A small white church sits quietly in Abbott, the kind you might pass without a second glance. But its survival story is intertwined with one of country music’s biggest names: Willie Nelson.

In 2006, Abbott Methodist Church faced closure. According to its current pastor, Stephen Girsh, membership had dwindled to just five people. The United Methodist Conference decided to shut down the church and put it up for sale.
