I was clicking through some YouTube videos last year just listening to songs when I came across Willie Nelson's "It's Not Something You Get Over" and I thought, what a pretty song but maybe too much on the nose for what we are going through. I thought about it tonight and decided to do it. It's from his 2018 album, Last Man Standing, and he just might be the last of his peers still fighting the good fight. Although he's not credited as a co-writer, Willie's long time producer Buddy Cannon tells a story of overhearing Willie consoling a long time friend who had just lost a loved one. She said that she didn't think she'd ever get over it and Willie said, "it's not something you get over, but it's something you'll get through. It stuck with Cannon for several years. He thought there was a song in it and one day he spoke to Willie about it, they tossed it around awhile and this is the result.
