Johnny Cash pulled up to a whites-only venue with his
Black musician beside him. The promoter told him the
rules. Five hundred people were waiting inside.

Cash opened the trunk and put his guitar in.

"If he can't go in," Cash said, "then neither can I."

What happened next inside that room — nobody planned it,
nobody expected it, and nobody who was there ever
forgot it.
