After June Carter Cash passed away in 2003, Johnny Cash's world grew very small and very quiet. Weakened by illness and with his eyesight nearly gone, he still began each morning the same way-slowly making his way to June's grave near their home in Tennessee. He once told his family that he could still sense her presence when the wind moved, as if she were speaking to him. Doctors urged him to conserve his strength, but Johnny refused to give up the routine. He said he had promised June she would never be left alone- not even after death. Only a few months later, Johnny Cash passed away peacefully. It was as if he had simply finished keeping his promise. From that day on, he would never miss another morning with her again.
