Played on my Martin D-X2E. Hands up who knew that this song was originally recorded in 1959 by Lefty Frizzell? I didn't know this until I came to record this. I only know the #johnnycash version. Others have covered it. A haunting ballad. The man singing the song is wrongfully executed for a murder he did not commit. On the night in question he was having congress with his best friend's wife. He refuses to tell the judge where he was and so pays the ultimate penalty for his silence. Confession time: Have you ever kept quiet about something that you shouldn't have done? Were you subsequently executed? What was your last meal? Mine was ham, egg and chips.
