The song "Die Moritat von Mackie Messer" was based upon the story of an eighteenth-century highwayman named Captain Macheath, portrayed in Die Dreigroschenoper, also known as The Three Penny Opera, composed by Kurt Weill with lyrics by Bertolt Brecht. I like to whistle Bobby Darin's version.
