Radiohead, formed in Abingdon, England, in the mid-1980s as "On a Friday" by schoolmates Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Colin Greenwood, Ed O’Brien, and Phil Selway, emerged as one of the most innovative bands in rock history after adopting their now-iconic name in 1991. Signing with EMI, they debuted with Pablo Honey (1993) and the hit "Creep," but quickly shed their alt-rock origins with The Bends (1995) and the seminal OK Computer (1997), a dystopian masterpiece that redefined the genre. The 2000s saw them pivot to experimental electronica with Kid A (2000) and Amnesiac (2001), followed by the industry-shaking pay-what-you-want release of In Rainbows (2007), blending accessibility with their avant-garde edge. With nine studio albums, including the orchestral A Moon Shaped Pool (2016), and a trailblazing career marked by Grammy wins and relentless boundary-pushing, Radiohead’s evolution from schoolboy rockers to cultural icons reflects a fearless commitment to art over convention, leaving an indelible mark on music as of February 19, 2025.
