Cash’s words hit differently now. This song has always spoken to me.
It’s not just music — it’s a statement, a declaration, and a reminder that we shouldn’t turn away from suffering or from our neighbors.
We’re seeing cuts to healthcare, food assistance, student aid, and clean energy — all while tax breaks for the wealthy are made permanent and the national deficit grows.
Whether or not you agree with every point, I believe this song challenges us to think about what kind of country we want to be.
