In 1883 a smallpox epidemic claimed 44 lives in a brand new town called Mesa, Az thus creating this cemetery.

in 2017 Mesa was the largest suburb in the United States at just under a half a million residents.

Well known residents of the cemetery are Waylon Jennings, Ernesto Miranda, Zora Folley and Civil War soldiers whose names are unknown.
