Today in history 7th November 1767 Higgins was sent to the gallows. Meet Edward Higgins — conman, charmer, and the self-styled “gentleman” of Knutsford. In the mid-1700s, Higgins robbed, schemed, and smooth-talked his way into high society, convincing everyone he was a man of wealth and taste. But beneath the fine clothes and fancy horses lurked a ruthless highwayman who just couldn’t stop himself.

When the law finally caught up, his story took one last bizarre twist — because apparently, even execution couldn’t quite finish him off.
