This Department was once OFF LIMITS | GUAVIARE

Welcome to the department of Guaviare, the gateway to the Colombian Amazon. This department is filled with some of the most incredible natural beauty in the country, but up until recently was completely inaccessible, much of it's territory completely controlled by armed forces, illicit economies, and violent conflict. However, Guaviare has undergone an incredible transformation in the past decade, finally opening again to visitors after years of conflict. It was an incredible honor to be able to visit the department and witness it's natural beauty, but more than anything to hear the stories of those who have faced it's complicated past with incredible resilience.

Bienvenidos al departamento del Guaviare, la puerta de entrada a la Amazonía colombiana. Este departamento alberga algunas de las bellezas naturales más increíbles del país, pero hasta hace poco era completamente inaccesible, pues gran parte de su territorio estaba completamente controlado por las fuerzas armadas, las economías ilícitas y el conflicto violento. Sin embargo, el Guaviare ha experimentado una transformación increíble en la última década, abriéndose finalmente a los visitantes tras años de conflicto. Fue un gran honor poder visitar el departamento y contemplar su belleza natural, pero sobre todo escuchar las historias de quienes han enfrentado su complicado pasado con una resiliencia increíble.
