Join us for our next Folk Evening! Tuesday 10th August from 9:30 pm to 10:30 pm.
Showcasing: Jim Causley & Susan Gibson.
Another late (ish) night journey into the folk music passions, pastimes, performances and studies from the folk music circuit. Wonderfully diverse music and fascinating lives!

Home Stage is thrilled to welcome multi-award-winning folk singer Jim Causley to Tuesday Folk People. His successes cultivating British folk, coupled with a voice that has been described as"one in a million" by no other than Geoff Lakeman, have resulted in Jim receiving nominations for six BBC 2 Radio Folk Awards, winning the 2017 BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for ‘Singer of the Year,’ his own folk music show on BBC Radio Devon, and performances in festivals and concerts with audiences of up to 65,000 people.
During this Tuesday Folk People session, Home Stage presents exclusive performances of Jim’s music, a man described as "the finest singer of his generation" (Mojo Magazine). As well as this, Jim joins Maddy Leedham in conversation to discuss his work cultivating the folk music of his native region, Devon. This work has appeared on TV and radio, including his original songs and arrangements featured on BBC TVs 'Countryfile - Dartmoor Special' and BBC Programme ‘Highwaymen, Outlaws and Villains.'
Explore Jim’s experiences putting the poems of his relative and celebrated Cornish poet, Charles Causley, to music in his album ‘Cyprus Well.’ This album went on to be used by award-winning filmmaker, Jane Darke, as the soundtrack for her BBC biographical film celebrating Charles Causley as part of his centenary celebrations.
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from a man who has toured and recorded alongside such legends as Waterson:Carthy, John McCusker, Eddie Reader, Graham Coxson, Shirley Collins, Michael Morpurgo, Show of Hands, Kate Rusby, David Rotheray of Beautiful South fame and many more.

With six original albums and a song appearing on a grammy nominated album, Home Stage is delighted to present standout singer-songwriter, Susan Gibson. Born in Minnesota, based in Texas, and streaming into Tuesday Folk People from Montana, Susan is an undisputed troubadour, spending the past two decades travelling the United States with nothing but a Sprinter camper van, two dogs and her music.
Often found performing in the "nooks and crannies" of the country, Susan’s main aim is to connect with each individual member of her audience. With no desire for the bright lights of fame, Susan approaches her songs with an authenticity and relatability that results in a product with no pretension; the listener has no choice but to be moved.
In this session, alongside exclusive performances of her original songs, we will explore Susan’s most recognisable achievement to date: a song written 28 years ago that went on to be one of the biggest country songs of all time. In 1998, Susan’s original song, ‘Wide Open Spaces,’ was used as the title track by Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer, aka The Chicks, on their grammy-nominated debut album, ‘Wide Open Spaces.’ One of the Chicks’ most recognised and popular songs, ‘Wide Open Spaces’ continues to capture the heart of each new generation of country fans, unwavering in their adoration. This song acts as a benchmark for Susan’s work, proof of the power of her songwriting.
