The Florida Highwaymen: Changing The Landscape
In the mid-1950s, a group of inspired young African Americans chose to pursue careers in art rather than endure arduous work picking crops in the sweltering heat of Florida's agricultural industry.
That decision led to one of America's most fascinating art stories.
The Highwaymen produced in the neighborhood of 250,000 paintings over 70 years. They have been called "The Last Great American Art Movement of the 20Th Century."
This Exhibit is ready to hang.
Includes up to 55 Iconic Landscape paintings by the core members of the group. In addition there are 26 portraits of all the members of the Florida Highwaymen, done by the nephew of original Highwaymen Artist James Gibson (1939-2017). Complete with didactics explaining the group and the artists, and bios of all the artists included with the portraiture.
Available from November 2025 through to July 2026.
