In 1990, the Internal Revenue Service seized nearly everything owned by Willie Nelson—his homes, studio, awards, clothes, and equipment—over a massive tax debt of more than $16 million. He was left almost broke. But one thing remained: his beloved guitar, Trigger, which his daughter secretly sent to Maui before the agents arrived. With only his voice and that guitar, Willie recorded an album called The IRS Tapes: Who'll Buy My Memories? and sold it on TV to help repay the debt. Fans supported him, and some even bought his auctioned belongings and returned them. Over time, the debt was cleared, and Willie often said that as long as he had his guitar, he would always find a way forward. ????
